Hypersensitivity to acetaminophen, because it is metabolized in the liver, it should be administered with caution in patients with liver damage, as well as in those who are receiving hepatotoxic drugs or who have some type of nephropathy.
The risk of hepatotoxicity is rather high in patients with alcohol dependence and in patients receiving more than one medication containing acetaminophen.
Avoid the use of high doses in patients with hepatic dysfunction.
Avoid use in patients with phenylketonuria or G6PD deficiency.
Use with caution in patients with dehydration or chronic malnutrition. Self-medication with paracetamol should be limited when being treated with anticonvulsants, since it enhances hepatoxicity and decreases the bioavailability of paracetamol.
