COMPOSITION: Each tablet contains 300 mg of lithium carbonate and excipients qs 1 tablet.
INDICATIONS: Prophylaxis and treatment of manic and acute hypomanic episodes. In bipolar illness. Prophylaxis of recurrent unipolar depressive disorders. In schizoaffective and neuroleptics disorders. To control aggressive behavior or self-mutilating. Treatment of adolescents with bipolar disorder, childhood aggression and behavioral disorders associated with mental retardation and developmental disorders.
Nonpsychiatric Use: Prophylaxis for some forms of migraines and headaches. Treatment of spontaneous leukopenia or induced by chemotherapy.
DOSAGE: The dose varies between 600 and 3,000 mg per day administered 2-3 fractions per day. The therapeutic efficacy is achieved with serum levels between 0.4 to 1 mmol / L. The therapeutic concentrations must be adjusted individually for each patient, to those that produce clinical response without evidence of toxicity. The lithemia should be performed regularly.
PRECAUTIONS: The margin between therapeutic and toxic concentration is narrow, therefore, it should be administered under medical supervision.
Before prescribing Ceglution 300 it is recommended to do a renal function and thyroid tests. When the patient is older than 40 or has a cardiac history it is advised to conduct an EKG
CONTRAINDICATIONS: Severe renal or cardiovascular ailments. Metabolic disorders. Debilitated or dehydrated patients with hyponatremia and Addison’s disease, as well as concomitant use of diuretics. In pregnancy only if judged clinically required. Contraindicated during lactation.
