COMPOSITION: Each 100 cream contains 5 g of Permethrin. Excipients c.s.

DESCRIPTION: Permethrin is the first synthetic, photo stable and less toxic pyrethroid, which made it the ideal compound for human use in the treatment of ectoparasites. Permethrin has proved extremely low toxicity in mammals. Permethrin is used as an acaricide in the treatment of scabies in a 5% dermal cream, cosmetically elegant and easy to use, has no unpleasant odor and does not stain clothing. Marked radioisotope studies indicate that less than 2% premethrin is absorbed and excreted as inactive metabolites. This is due to the rapid decomposition of permethrin by esterases in the skin, giving rise to inactive metabolite diclovinil carboxylic acid. This is conjugated with glucuronides and it is rapidly excreted in the urine.

INDICATIONS: SARNOL is indicated for the treatment of infestations due to Sarcoptesscabiei causative agent of scabies.

SIDE EFFECTS: Side effects reported are minimal and include itching, pruritus, erythema and stinging, and as several of these symptoms are associated with scabies it is difficult to relate them directly to treatment.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: Hypersensitivity to pyrethrins.

PRECAUTIONS: Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, sensitive areas of skin and wounds. Keep out of reach of children, food and beverages.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: Adults and children over 2 months: SARNOL cream should be applied only once in the whole body except face and neck, especially in areas most affected between toes, armpits and groins, external genitalia, anal conduit, nails ( as by scratching can contains mites or eggs). Only proceed to another application if your doctor prescribes. The patient should not bathe or shower for at least 12 hours after applying the cream. Change and wash clothing daily and bedding. Consider the family spread. SARNOL R can be used in pregnancy, lactation and children under 2 months of age by reducing the application time to 4 or 6 hours and assessing the need to re-apply.
