COMPOSITION: Each chewable tablet contains 200 mg of Albendazole.

SUSPENSION: Each mL contains 20 mg of Albendazole.

INDICATIONS AND USE: AVIR contains Albendazole, an active anthelmintic carbamatobenzimidazolic against most nematodes and some adult cestodes, as well as larvae (Necator) and eggs (Ascaris, hookworms and whipworms). It is indicated for treatment of single or mixed intestinal infections including ascariasis, enterobiasis, hookworm, strongyloidiasis and tricocefalosis. It is used in the treatment of Neurocysticercosis caused by Taeniasolium larvae. It is the only drug used in treating ocular neurocysticercosis, and hydatid disease (Echinocococcusgranulo matismultilocularis). Can also be used in the treatment of capillariasis, gnastostomiasis and trichostrongyliasis, larvamigrans, toxocariasis, trichinosis and in the combined treatment of filiariasis, giardiasis.

DOSAGE AND ADMINISTRATION: it is given orally, usually as a single dose. In adults and children over 2 years, the usual dose for ascariasis, enterobiasis, hookworm and tricodefalosis is 400 mg as a single dose. It may be repeated in 3 weeks if no evidence is healing. Pediatric dose: 10 t0 15 mg / kg in children aged 1 to 2 years is given a single dose of 200 mg. For adults and children over 2 years in strongyloidiasis and taeniasis are administered 400 mg / day for 3 consecutive days and can be repeated after 3 weeks if they were eggs or larvae in feces. In children aged 1 to 2 years of age it is given 200 mg daily for 3 consecutive days, and can be repeated in 3 weeks. Cysticercosis: In the treatment of neurocysticercosis using an oral dose of 400 mg twice daily of albendazole in patients weighing less than 60 kg. Hydatosis: administered orally with meals at a dose of 400 mg twice daily for 28 days in patients weighing over 60 kg. A dose of 15 mg / kg / day in two divided doses (up to 800 mg) inpatients weighing less that 60 kg. For cystic hydatid disease during 28 days can be repeated after 14 days for a total of 3 cycles of treatment. Gardiasis: 400 mg daily for 5 days.

CONTRAINDICATIONS: Contraindicated in individuals who have demonstrated hypersensitivity to the drug, pregnancy and lactation.
